The 2nd AbleVision Ireland International Festival for Short Films was held in Drogheda over the weekend of 28th and 29th March. The festival which included entrants from North and South America, Africa, and Europe took place in the Drogheda Arts Centre.
To qualify for the festival, films must be made by production crews or involve actors with an Intellectual Disability. Saint John of God North East Services’ entry, “They call me Jim”, is based on a poem by religious author Mary Bridget Judge from West Yorkshire which she wrote after an informal chat with a Saint John of God Brother.
The poem appeared in the November/December 2012 issue of Spiritually magazine, published by Dominican Publications.
While the film did not reach the final, it received high praise from the judges and also from some of the finalists. Last year North East Services’ entry was awarded 2nd place.
