Umoza Children's Project
The Umoza Childrens’ Project aims to promote rehabilitation, wellbeing and holistic development of children operating in and on the streets and vulnerable others within the city of Mzuzu. Recently it celebrated the success of two of its members, Emmanuel Simbeye and Thomas Kayange.
Emmanual and Thomas joined the project in 2005 when they were 11 and 10 years old respectively. From single parent-headed families, having lost their fathers, they were facilitated off the streets and enrolled in primary school in 2005. They were supported by the project through various means, i.e. school materials/requirements, remedial classes, nutrition, health/well-being, family empowerment and other psychosocial support.
Emmanuel and Thomas performed very well in primary school and they were enrolled into NkhataBay and Chaminade secondary schools respectively. The boys have successfully obtained their Malawi School Certificate Examination certificates with Emmanual gaining 25 points and Thomas 23 points. Thomas is now also volunteering in one of our Umoza Outreach Centres.
