Saint John of God Menni Services have been successful in getting the expertise of Sarah Gavra Boland for the next 12 months. Sarah's role as New Technology Co-Ordinator has been funded by Vodafone Ireland Foundation through its “World of Difference Programme”.
This is an exceptional opportunity for Menni Services and Sarah will help finalise the “Way Buddy Travel Training App”, an accessible smartphone travel app designed to support people with intellectual disabilities to learn and follow daily routes independently.
This very innovative project has been developed by staff at Menni Services in partnership with students at Digital Skills Academy. On completion, this device has the potential to go nationwide and be used by thousands of individuals to help them use public transport independently, which could significantly improve their quality of life. In her new role, Sarah will also support Menni Services to enhance the range and accessibility of smart and user friendly technology for the men and women using our services.
The New Year started off with Sarah introducing some new technology and software (apps) at seven Menni centres. Twenty task group members will explore and be trained on how smartphones and tablets can assist them in their daily lives and help them achieve some of their desired goals.
